The End of Evangelion was meant to replace or complement the original episodes 25 and 26, in order to better explain the events of the ending.
Fans were understandably upset with this first finale, so the film Neon Genesis Evangelion: Death & Rebirth was released on March 15th, 1997. Basically, it just got real weird at the end and I would love an explanation. This thread is archived.
Kaworu became so popular after this episode aired that, in the versions of Evangelion that were released after the show aired, they always decided to give him more screentime.

But if you watch the previews for the follow episodes after 24 it actually shows part of the real ending which you can find in the movie END OF EVANGELION. I just watched ep 24, but i had no idea what the heck was going on!

I was really enjoying the psychological themes in the show but then the last couple episodes just went nuts on it. (Topic ID: 9263) MOre on the instrumentality it's not only shinji that went thru it so did asuka, misato and rei. This movie is comprised of the two episodes 25' "Air" and 26' "Magokoro wo, kimi ni (Sincerely Yours/My Pure Heart for You)". I just had this problem two days ago. THE END OF EVANGELION. Im currently watching the evangelion series, and from what i understand the official canon of the show is episodes 1-24 and the movie end of evangelion.
